It’s been nearly three weeks since I landed in the garden city, a city with which I parted ways 2 years ago. As I embark upon this new phase of life, I couldn’t help but compare how it was and how it is. Two years ago I never had the experience of living in Mumbai which made me love Bangalore for its size, the malls, the girls, the climate, the restaurants and more importantly proximity from home. The picture is quite different now. Bangalore life is nothing compared to Aamchi Mumbai. The only pros for Bangalore would be that I have loads of close friend here, the good food and of course the ‘closer-to-home’ factor. I really do miss the local trains, the sincere auto and taxi drivers, Marine Drive, Carter road, the girls and what not. As far as hangout places and night life are concerned, Bangalore has a lot of catching up to do. It is really dull. Thank God I do have loads of friends here to have fun.
As far as work life is concerned, it’s pretty much the same till now because I’ve just joined and no work load at all as of now. Just a few online courses and other learning stuff. A major difference here is the senior employees. When I joined DRDO I had to wait for 3 days to even meet my manager who was not that busy at all (which I understood once I gelled into the group). How much will he lose just to spend a few minutes with me to make me feel at ease? . Office timings were actually pointless for me because I did not have much work to do. The boss wants to make other groups feel that there is some critically important work going on and my group is sincerely working day and night to meet the goals. The truth was completely different though. Practically, I had no work. Some days I would just sit there and wait for the time to be 6 o’clock. The worst part was that, even if the boss knew there is no work to be done he would make me stay till 6 without any reason. Here @ Qualcomm it is really different. I can go up to the manager and meet him anytime I want. He is a very amicable guy who did make me feel at home despite him being a bit busy. Work timings seem awesome for now. I hope it does stay the same.
That’s it for now. Waiting for my first salary. Ciao.
